- Header Layout
- Header design for all websites should include the following at a bare minimum:
- Logo or Business name: Should be in the header of both desktop and mobile layouts
- Navigation Menu: If you wish to reorganize the nav structure or change the title of a button in the menu, versus using what is on the client’s existing site, please be sure the project owner is aware before it goes into development.
- Phone number: Use the client’s actual phone number on the mockups so we do not need to swap out the placeholder numbers after the layouts are built. Refer to Hubspot, the brand profile guide, the project resources section of the project folder, or ask the sales rep if you aren’t sure where to find it. Do not use the number on their existing site (this is usually a tracking number that they do not own). Mobile layouts should ALWAYS include a call icon in the header unless stated otherwise.
- Body Layout
- All home page layouts should include the following somewhere in the body
- Buttons & Links: The main purpose of the home page is to drive people deeper into the website. Please be sure to include buttons that lead to relevant pages in each section of the home page. (I.e. Contact Us button in the hero CTA, About Us button after the intro section, Testimonials button if there is a section for client reviews in the home page design, etc.)
- Badges : We should incorporate these into home page designs as often as possible. If the client does not have any on their existing site, either ask the Sales rep to obtain these for you or Google the name of the business to see if they have a good rating on Yelp or Google, or for any profiles they may have on Better Business Bureau, Avvo, Martindale Hubbel, Justia, SuperLawyers, etc. The sales rep can also help
- Feed element: Home page design should include some interactive object, such as a blog feed (if they have a blog), a team member carousel or something else that users can engage with.
- Footer Layout
- Contact Form: This should be a “short form” that includes fields for Full Name, Phone, Email and Message. The field labels should be above the field (not inside, as placeholder text) for accessibility reasons. The form should also have an acknowledgement checkbox for terms & conditions
- NAP block: that has the business name, address and phone number. Should also include a “Map & Directions” link, as well as an embedded map.
- Utility Nav: This should be discrete and include a link to Privacy Policy, Sitemap, Accessibility Statement and Disclaimer.
- Social Icons: These should be accessible via any page, so if they are not present in the header design, they should be in the footer.
